Haven is an app designed to provide a supportive and inclusive community for immigrant mothers going through the perinatal journey. Being a new mother in a new place can be challenging, but Haven creates a safe space where women can connect with others who share similar experiences. This is especially helpful for those who are dealing with the postpartum effects of their journey. Haven offers a range of resources and tools to help immigrant mothers navigate the challenges of motherhood in a new country.

Finding Our Path

Our approach began by selecting a theme. After brainstorming for several hours, we landed on the idea of creating a product that supports and connects immigrant mothers during their prenatal journey. Language barriers and cultural differences often make it difficult for them to find the right resources or support, and we wanted to address this challenge.

After about two hours of research and ideation, we decided to focus on education and connection. We then did a round of Crazy-8s to spark more ideas (our pre-Crazy-8s sketches featured below). This led to a concept of circles of friends—a safety net that shows both inner and outer connections to help users feel supported.

Expanding Our Work

Late into the night, we worked on how to visually represent the safety net concept. We focused on ensuring that users could clearly see and feel their support network whenever they opened the app. After about six hours of sleep, we returned to create more refined wireframes that captured our ideas and began crafting a cohesive user experience and visual brand.

We finalized the name Haven, positioning the app as a safe haven for mothers to find the support and community they need. As the deadline approached, we raced to complete our frames, putting the finishing touches on our project.

Overall, our hard work paid off, and we were proud to finish in 3rd place at Protothon 2023! The experience was incredibly rewarding, and it was a great accomplishment to see our idea come to life and gain recognition among so many talented teams.
