DubHacks Hackathon 2023
My first-ever hackathon was an incredible experience, where I teamed up with fellow Interaction Design student Michael Neese to tackle financial well-being. Organized by the DubHacks team at the University of Washington, this in-person event challenged us to design and prototype a solution in an intense, time-constrained environment.
Process & Development
We began with rapid ideation, narrowing our focus to a banking app that integrates AI to bridge personal finances with long-term financial planning. As time slipped away, we streamlined our ideas, ensuring feasibility while maintaining impact. I led the UI design and prototyping, creating a high-fidelity ProtoPie prototype that judges could interact with live on my phone.
Takeaways
Despite being a two-designer team in a coder-dominated competition, we pushed ourselves to the limit, working through the night and even sleeping on campus. Competing against 176 teams, we weren’t aiming to win but to build something we were proud of—and receiving high marks from the judges made the effort even more rewarding.
